How to Control SSH “Shell Access” for Your cPanel Account

SSH (Secure Shell) “Shell Access” provides advanced command-line control over your cPanel hosting account. This guide explains how to enable or disable this feature directly from your client area.

What is Shell Access?

Shell Access enables you to execute commands directly on your server, which is particularly useful for advanced file management, running scripts, or utilizing developer tools like Git.

Steps to Enable/Disable Shell Access:

  1. Log in to your Client Area. Go to your service provider's website and log in using your client area credentials.
  2. Navigate to your cPanel Service.
    • Once logged in, find the “Cloud Service” or “Services” section.
    • Choose your specific cPanel hosting service.
    • Click on “Manage” next to your cPanel service.
  3. Access “Shell Access” Management.
    • Within the service management area, look for a list or section that includes “Shell Access.”
  4. Enable Shell Access:
    • If Shell Access is currently disabled, you will see an option like “Enable Shell Access.”
    • Click this button.
    • The “Shell Access Status” will then change to “Enabled.” Please allow a few moments for the change to take effect fully on the server.
  5. Disable Shell Access:
    • If Shell Access is currently enabled, you will see an option like “Disable Shell Access.”
    • Click this button.
    • The “Shell Access Status” will change to “Disabled.”

To Connect via SSH:
– Use an SSH client (like PuTTY for Windows or Terminal for macOS/Linux).
– Connect to server hostname (or server IP) on Port 6934.
– Log in with your cPanel username and cPanel password.
