Overview
Manage your domain’s DNS records and features directly through Cloudflare’s interface, ensuring quick and reliable DNS resolution.
- Log in to your Client Area account.
- Navigate to Security Services – Cloudflare Pro product page from Cloud Services > My Hosting and Services.
- Click on Manage Cloudflare
- Under DNS tab:
- IPv6 Compatibility: Support IPv6 traffic alongside IPv4, ensuring your site is accessible to users on both protocols.
- Pseudo IPv4: Automatically converts IPv6 addresses into IPv4 for legacy systems not supporting IPv6, enhancing compatibility.
- DNSSEC: Enable DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions) to protect your domain from DNS spoofing and ensure secure communication between DNS servers.
- CNAME Flattening: Resolve CNAME records at the root level of your domain without impacting performance, allowing for flexible and efficient domain management.
- DNS Records: Manage various DNS records (A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.) to control traffic routed to your domain.
- Add DNS Records
To add a new DNS record, start by selecting the field type in the drop-down menu under the DNS Records section, then click on Add New DNS Records.
Following is a brief explanation of the most used field you will encounter:
-
- Name: Use “@” to denote the root domain (e.g., example.com) or specify a subdomain like “www” for www.example.com.
- Proxy Status: This option allows you to enable or disable Cloudflare’s proxy for this DNS record:
- On (Proxied): Traffic is routed through Cloudflare, providing security benefits like DDoS protection and performance enhancements like caching.
- Off (DNS Only): Traffic bypasses Cloudflare and goes directly to your server.
- Mail Server: This field is specific to MX records and contains the hostname of your email server (e.g., mail.example.com) that handles incoming mail for your domain.
- Priority: Also specific to MX records, this sets the priority of mail servers. A lower number means higher priority. If you have multiple mail servers, the one with the lowest priority number will be tried first.
- TTL (Time to Live): This value determines how long DNS servers and clients cache DNS information before refreshing. Proxied records are set to “Auto” and can only be configured if the proxy status is DNS Only.
Edit DNS Records
When managing DNS records in Cloudflare, there is a critical aspect to keep in mind: the proxy status must be disabled as “Off” (DNS Only) rather than “On” (Proxied) when making changes to certain DNS records. Here’s how to do it:
- Locate the DNS record you wish to edit. If the Proxy Status is enabled (showing a green cloud icon), click on the cloud icon to toggle it to a gray cloud, which sets it to “Off” (DNS Only).
- Click the “Edit” button (pencil icon) next to the DNS record you want to change.
- Save your changes
- Re-enable Proxy Status (if needed), by clicking the gray cloud icon to switch back to green after you’ve saved the updates.
