Google Site Kit is the official WordPress plugin that connects your website with Google services such as Search Console and Google Analytics, allowing you to view performance data directly inside your WordPress dashboard.
1. Preparatory Steps (Before You Begin)
- Note: These steps assume that the Site Kit by Google plugin is already installed and activated. If not, go to Plugins > Add New, search for “Site Kit by Google”, then install and activate it.
- Google Account: A valid Google account to connect the required services.
- WordPress Admin Access: Only administrators can complete the setup.
- Google Analytics Account (Optional): Required if you want to connect Analytics during setup.
- Active Website: Your website must be publicly accessible.
- GA4 Property (Optional): If using Google Analytics 4, make sure the property and web data stream have already been created.
2. First-Time Setup
- Start Setup: Go to WordPress Dashboard > Site Kit > Dashboard, then click Start Setup.
- Sign in with Google: Click Sign in with Google to begin the connection process.
- Select Your Account: Choose the Google account linked to your website’s Google services, then click Continue.
- Grant Permissions: Click Continue, then Allow to give Site Kit the required permissions to access your Google account data.
3. Site Verification and Core Setup
- Verify Site Ownership: Click Verify to confirm ownership of your website. Site Kit will automatically verify the website using Google Search Console.
- Set Up Google Search Console: If your website is not already connected, click Set Up. Site Kit will then connect your website to Search Console.
- Connect Google Analytics (Optional): If you selected Analytics during setup, click Next, select your Google Analytics account and property, then approve any additional permissions if requested.
- Analytics Property: Depending on your setup, Site Kit may create a new Analytics property or connect an existing one. Click Continue to proceed.
- Select Your Data Stream (GA4): If prompted, choose the correct web data stream for your website to ensure visitor tracking is configured properly.
4. Finalizing Setup
- Complete Setup: Once all required steps are finished, click Go to WordPress Dashboard to access your Site Kit dashboard.
- Verify Connection: Confirm that Search Console is connected, Google Analytics is connected if enabled, and no setup warnings are displayed.
- Note: It may take up to 24–48 hours for Analytics and Search Console data to appear.
5. Standard Usage
- Search Traffic: View Google Search Console data.
- Website Visitors: Monitor website traffic using Google Analytics.
- Performance Insights: Review page speed and optimization metrics.
- Reports Dashboard: Access data from all connected Google services in one place.
6. Managing Connected Services
- Access Settings: Go to WordPress Dashboard > Site Kit > Settings.
- Manage Services: From here, you can connect additional Google services, disconnect existing services, or reconfigure Analytics and Search Console.
- Optional Services: These include PageSpeed Insights, AdSense, and Tag Manager.
Important Note : Site Kit data is not instant. Reports may take 24–48 hours to fully appear in your WordPress dashboard after setup is completed
