How to Reset the Root Password for Your Linux VPS

Overview

Reset your Linux VPS operating system administrator password—usually the root password—from the Client Area using Change Password.

Password reset is available only for VPS instances created using supported Linux images after this feature was introduced. Older VPS instances do not automatically gain support. The system automatically checks whether your VPS supports the feature.

1. Access Your VPS Service in the Client Area

  1. Sign in to the Client Area.
  2. Open Cloud Service from the menu or dashboard.
  3. Choose your Linux VPS from the list.
  4. On its management page, select Change Password.

2. Check whether password reset is available

The system automatically checks your VPS and displays the appropriate message.

Unsupported VPS
Password change is not available for this VM because it was created before this feature was supported or uses an unsupported image. Please contact support for assistance.

If this warning appears, you cannot continue with the password reset. Please contact Support and identify the affected VPS.

Supported VPS
This will change your VM’s operating system administrator password. Password reset is available only for VMs created using supported images after this feature was introduced. Older VMs do not automatically gain support. Your new password must be at least 12 characters and include uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and special characters.

If your VPS supports the feature, proceed to enter your new password.

3. Enter and submit your new password

  1. Enter a strong, unique password.
  2. Use 13 or more characters, including uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
  3. Save your new password securely.
  4. Submit the request using the confirmation button shown in the dialog.
  5. Wait for the system to report the result.

You cannot retrieve or display your password later. Keep it securely stored, preferably in a password manager. If you lose it, you will need to reset it again.

4. Sign in with the new password

After the change succeeds, use your new password to sign in to the VPS with its operating system administrator account, usually root.

If the change fails or you cannot sign in afterward, contact Support.
