How to Start Rescue Mode on Your Linux VPS from the Client Area

Overview

Rescue VM provides a recovery environment for a Linux VPS that cannot be accessed normally, for example when its installed file system or operating system needs investigation.

Rescue mode is an advanced recovery tool. It is different from Console, normal password reset, and Reinstallation. If you are unsure which option is appropriate, contact Support before proceeding.

Before You Begin

Plan for service interruption and keep any available backups. Have your VPS identification ready. Do not format, reinstall, or modify disks unless you understand the recovery procedure.

1. Access Your Linux VPS

  1. Sign in to the Client Area.
  2. Open Cloud Service from the menu or dashboard.
  3. Choose the VPS you want to manage from the list.

2. Review the Rescue Dialog

  1. Under Service Actions, select Rescue VM.
  2. Read the warning explaining how the rescue environment will be configured.
  3. Locate the Rescue Password field and copy the password using the copy control. Store it securely for this recovery session.

The dialog explains that the rescue environment uses the VM network configuration, a rescue image as its primary file system, and the original VM file system as a secondary file system. The rescue password is for the recovery environment; do not treat it as your normal installed-system password.

3. Request Rescue Mode

  1. If you are ready to interrupt normal service and begin recovery, click Rescue. Choose Cancel to leave without proceeding.
  2. Wait for the operation result and check the VM state.
  3. If Rescue fails or the recovery environment is inaccessible, contact Support before attempting further changes.

4. Recovery and Returning to Normal Operation

The appropriate disk checks and repairs depend on the fault and operating system. Ask Support for assistance if you do not have an established recovery procedure. The service page includes an Unrescue VM control for leaving rescue mode when available; coordinate this step with Support if you are unsure.

Do not publish, send, or include the rescue password in screenshots or support-ticket text. Keep it confidential.
