How to add password protection for a directory

Overview

In this article, you will learn how to add password protection for a directory. This adds an extra layer of protection to files that you don't want anyone to access. A password to protect directory can be easily achieved using this option in cPanel.

Adding password protection to a directory

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. In the FILES section of the cPanel home screen, click Directory Privacy.
  3. Click the name of the directory that you want to protect.
  4. Under Security Settings, select the Password protect this directory check box.
  5. Type a name for the protected directory.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Under Create User, type a username in the Username text box.
  8. In the New Password field, type the user's password.
  9. Click Save.

Removing password protection from a directory

  1. Click the name of the directory for which you want to remove password protection.
  2. Under Security Settings, clear the Password protect this directory check box.
  3. Click Save.
