How to migrate from POP3 to IMAP

Add your IMAP account

  1. Select from the menu File option, then Select Info.
  2. Click the Add Account button, then choose Manual setup or additional server types.
  3. Click Next.
  4. From the Choose Service window, choose POP or IMAP.
  5. Click Next.

Configure POP/IMAP settings 

  1. On the setting page enter the following data:
Enter your email address  Email Address
IMAP Account Type
mail.yourdomain.com Incoming Mail Server
mail.yourdomain.com Outgoing  Mail Server 
Enter your user name User Name
Enter your password Password 
  1. Click on the More Settings button, Internet E-mail Setting window will appear.
  2. From the new window, click on the Outgoing Server tab.
  3. Selecting the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
  4. Click the Advanced tab, then make sure to customize the following settings:
    • Make sure that Use the following type of encrypted connection option is SSL.
    • Make sure the Incoming server (IMAP) option is 993.

   5. In the Outgoing server settings section, make sure that the settings are set as follows:

    • Make sure that Use the following type of encrypted connection option is SSL.
    • Make sure Outgoing server (SMTP) option Make sure is465.

   6. Click OK.

   7. Click Next.

   8. If you entered everything correctly, both tasks will be completed successfully. You can close the window and click Next

   9. Click the Finish button.

Notice

Make sure to use the same settings for your incoming mail server.

Move messages from POP to IMAP account folders

You can move old POP3 email messages or folders to the new IMAP account:

  1. Select it and transfer it to your IMAP account by drag and drop. it may take several minutes to download.
  2. The messages will now be uploaded to the server as they will be available to all computers connected to this account.

Remove your POP account

  1. Select the File menu and choose Info, then click Account settings, then choose Account settings again.
  2. Select the POP account you want to remove, then click Remove.
  3. To confirm account removal, tap Yes.
  4. Now the pop account will not receive any new email.
  5. Right-click on your pop account, then click Close.
  6. You can now start sending and receiving emails.

Adding IMAP account in 2007

  1. Open Outlook, and then head to the top menu and choose Tools.
  2. From the top options menu, click on Email, then New.
  3. Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP and click Next.
  4. Check the Manually configure server settings or additional server types option and click the Next.
  5. Select Internet E-mail and click Next.
  6. Fill in the required information as follows:
Enter you email address  Email Address
IMAP Account Type
mail.yourdomain.com Incoming Mail Server
mail.yourdomain.com Outgoing  Mail Server 
Enter your user name User Name
Enter your password Password 

   7. Click on More Settings, Enter your Name, Enter your full email address, click on the More Settings button.

   8. From the top options menu click on Outgoing Server.

   9. Enabling the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication option and choosing Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

   10. Choose the Advanced tab

   11. Set the settings for the outgoing server as follows:

    • Outgoing server (SMTP) port changed to 587.

   12. Click OK, and then click Next.

   13. If you have entered all of the above correctly, all tasks will be completed successfully. You can close the window and again click on the Next button.

    14. Click on the Finish button.

    15. If you have entered all of the above correctly, all tasks will be completed successfully. You can close the window and click on the Next button.

    16. Click on the Finish button.

Move emails from POP3 folders to IMAP

  1. You can transfer all contents of the folders of your old account using POP as an incoming or outgoing folder to your new IMAP account by copying or dragging and dropping.
  2. Copy the required folders or select the emails you want to move from a specific folder and then drag and drop them into the corresponding folder on the IMAP account.
  3. You can notice the process of copying messages to the server as it will be available to all computers connected to this account.

Delete your POP account

  1. Open Outlook, and then go to the top menu and choose Tools and click on Settings Account button.
  2. From the top menu options click on Email.
  3. Select the POP account you want to delete, then click Remove.
  4. To confirm deleting the account, click Yes.
  5. You can now start sending and receiving emails with your IMAP account.
